  The Business and Community leadership program is an innovative leadership development program that seeks to expose candidates to contemporary leadership practices. Candidates are exposed to thought leaders from a number of different spheres. BCLP 2010

 

About BCLP:

The Business & Community Leadership Program (BCLP) aims to introduce participants to new and innovative ideas in the areas of Business and community development in the context of leadership. It aims to create a populous that is not limited by existing practices and existing models for leadership and governance but rather a collective that is capable of creating new and innovative practices and approaches to governance. We are currently accepting applications for the 2010 program.

Program Structure:

The program is constituted by three complementary segments. Each is relevant to the overall program focus, and relates to one of the thematic focuses of the program. Some sessions emphasise personal development while others relate to civic duties, and community development. They all enhance the participants’ capacity to complete their designated community collaboration.

 

Knowledge Leadership (Segment 1):

Knowledge Leadership is a series of thought leadership sessions and plenary groups focused on exposing participants to thought leaders from business and industry. The sessions do not merely focus on vocational practices, rather the sessions focus on thought leadership narratives from a number of different spheres. 

The sessions are thematically structured. The themes for 2009 were;

  • Sustainable business enterprises
  • Homelessness in Australia
  • Australia’s relationship with Asia
  • Microinsurance and development
  • Personal development and vision
  • Managing diverse project teams

 

Masterclass (Segment 2):

The Master class seminars are a series of competency based training sessions, focused on affording the participants with key skills and competencies essential to their success in the business and community sectors. The sessions are conducted by industry professionals and academics with significant expertise in the business and community sectors. The sessions are offered throughout each semester and a number of times and venues. A schedule will be provided in the coming weeks.

 

Community Collaboration (Segment 3):

Community collaboration focuses on encouraging participants to become more connected with their community, and actively encourages civil sector engagement and a recognition of civic duties. Participants are encouraged to volunteer with a number of community projects and organizations in a collaborative manner.

 

Participant candidature:

The program is designed for all people committed to positive social change, and developing the personal skills and propensities necessary to facilitate such change. The program actively targets individuals that exhibit entrepreneurial flair, and those that have a desire to develop the skills and competencies that support entrepreneurial practices. Typically participants are tertiary students or early career professionals, but participant cohorts are remarkably diverse, please peruse current Associate profiles and fellow profiles if you would like to learn more about typical candidate groups.

The program participants are referred to formally as BCLP Associates for the duration of the program. Upon completion candidates receive the designation of BCLP Fellows are invited to continue to collaborate with the entity and the program towards positive social change efforts, and to further their personal development. Fellows may also come back as speakers and presenters in subsequent series of the program.  Fellows will also be featured on the program website, though this is optional.

 

Completion requirements:

To satisfy the requirements of the program participants must attend a minimum of 7 seminars in total. Four of the sessions must be Knowledge leadership sessions, a minimum of two project management/planning sessions, and one Masterclass session.  Participants can achieve this sequence by attending the first 7 scheduled sessions for 2009. Students must also undertake a volunteer project with a community based organisation, or a project brokered with the program conveners and organisers.
