| Prabath Wickramanayake |
| Prabath Wickramanayake was born in Colombo Sri Lanka in December 1982. He commenced his primary education at Nalanda College, Colombo in 1988 and continued up until he migrated to New Zealand in 1995 with his parents. At Newlands College in Wellington he completed his secondary education and in December 2000 he migrated to Australia. In 2006, Prabath graduated from Deakin University in Melbourne having successfully completed the degree of Bachelor of Arts (International Studies) majoring in International Relations. Prabath has a strong passion in his personal life as well as his academic interests on economic development and advocacy issues, particularly in Sri Lanka and Asia in general. This personal dedication links with the agonizing situations Prabath has seen in his early days in Sri Lanka. Even as a youth, this compassionate nature encouraged him to make constant visits to people living in rural areas which entwined with poverty and other socio-economic problems. In his academic essays, Prabath paid more attention to the issues relating to poverty in Sri Lanka. Moreover, Prabath has worked in Sri Lanka as an intern to the Marga Institute (NGO), where he carried out a research project that looked into the issues relating to the housing construction projects for the survivors of the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami in Kaluthara District, in the Western Province of Sri Lanka. Furthermore, he has worked for Save the Children Australia in Melbourne as a fundraising officer. In addition to his tertiary education and casual work, as a volunteer, Prabath worked for the Australian Red Cross Victoria as a research assistant for the refugee settlement support program and convener of refugee & asylum seeker youth program. At present, in his voluntary capacity, he works as the youth community programs leader for the Australian Red Cross Victoria. Moreover, at Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Prabath discharged his responsibilities as the food bank assistant. All these voluntary engagements show his initiative, dedication and willingness to help diverse communities in Melbourne. At present, Prabath is reading for the Degree of Master of Arts in International Relations at Deakin University in Melbourne. In 2006 he co-founded Darfur Human Rights and Development Organization of Australia with a group of human rights activists and academics from Melbourne. Prabath travels to Sri Lanka and Indochina, where he spends his time with the rural communities to learn about local customs and to gain an insight into hardships that rural communities of developing countries are confronted with.
