| Social Entrepreneurship |
|
Social entrepreneurship is essentially a reference to the actions of an agent of positive social change. A social entrepreneur is an individual who identifies a social problem and utilises what would be considered to be traditional entrepreneurial theory to mobilise individuals and resources to organise, development and implement an initiative to facilitate social change. While traditional business entrepreneurs measure their performance in terms of profit and yield, social entrepreneurs consider social metrics and the betterment of society as indicators. Social entrepreneurs have existed throughout history, Florence Nightingale the developer of modern nursing practices, and the first nursing school is one such example. Muhammad Yunus of Bangladesh in pioneering the micro-credit movement through his Grameen Bank is another such example. Would you like to volunteer? click here |
